You Don’t Have to Pick One Path Forever—Here’s Why
Most of us get stuck at the thought of starting a new direction because society teaches us to pick one path and stick with it for life.
It’s why, especially when you’re 30 plus, you freak out about changing.
You feel you don’t have the time to rewrite a ‘wrong’ decision.
You fear failing because of how it will look to others.
So the pressure builds on your decision.
And now you’re paralysed by overthinking and perfectionism.
Break the Paradigm
Breaking free from this BS paradigm is vital for starting a new path.
Arnold Schwarzenegger went from bodybuilder to actor, to politician and then author.
Vera Wang went from figure skater to fashion editor to dress designer.
Rich Roll went from entertainment lawyer to an ultra athlete, author, entrepreneur and podcaster in his 40s.
Julia Child went from working in advertising and intelligence to finding her calling as a celebrity chef at 49.
Here’s the thing if you’re multi-passionate like me…
There are lots of ideas and paths to choose from.
Maybe you explore one, before pivoting to something else?
Maybe it morphs into something similar, but different?
Maybe the path you choose is the one you do for the rest of your life?
When I quit my career in 2019, the first thing I did was teach meditation.
It’s one of my biggest passions.
I’d wanted to teach for years.
But after about 18 months, I decided I didn’t ‘just’ want to be a meditation teacher.
Because I had so much more to share beyond meditation.
I wanted to teach an holistic approach to transformation.
Sharing tools, practices and ideas on mindset, life design, self-discovery and personal growth — evolving Big Life Experiment into the version it is today.
I have other passions and interests I want to explore.
Some will help expand Big Life Experiment.
Some are paths I’d like to explore in the future — either for fun or as new career paths.
Like being a…
Poet — something I’ve experimented with since my teens.
Spoken word artist — I’m a huge fan of slam poetry.
DJ — I’ve always wanted to make music.
Author — I have several books I’ve started writing.
Athlete — another childhood dream.
And I’m sure I’ll discover new passions to explore as I get older.
Because age has no limit.
Grandma Moses — a renowned folk artist — didn’t start painting until she was 78, gaining celebrity for her paintings in her 80s and being on the cover of Time magazine at 93.
Look at the journey of Arnold, Vera and Julia.
You don’t have to pick one thing and commit FOREVER.
As we evolve and grow our paths will likely change.
You don’t need to see the whole map.
You just need to know the next aligned direction to take.
What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to try but held back on because it didn’t feel ‘safe’?
What’s stopping you from taking the first step now?
Know what level of risk you can handle — mentally and financially.
Then trust the choice you make and let things unfold
